🤠 Rapid Round Up
🧠 Sabrina found her focus after years of trying productivity hacks and burning out in this video.
✈️ Taha took off into the history of airplane mode to see why it was invented and if it is still necessary today in this video.
↔️ Tom let us back on Lateral where the team got another hole in one answer (after being pretty useless for the rest of the show). Give it a listen here!
🎧 Burnout Loop | Mixtape No. 26
The reason this newsletter took so long to come out is because Sabrina got a lil too burnt out to write it. While procrastinating resting, she put together this little playlist.
🧠 Does Meditation Still Work | Follow Up
In Sabrina’s latest video, she discovers how meditation might help her retrain her attention span. It worked for the week she was filming the video, but does that still hold 2 months later?
It definitely isn’t like a magic cure for my focus and mental health, but since then, I’ve realized my relationship with meditation is a good indicator for my life as a whole. Like, if I’m feeling too busy to carve out 10 minutes to just breathe, something is wrong, y’know?
After the video wrapped up and meditating wasn’t built into my work schedule, things kind of fell apart and I reached the point where I had to admit I was burnt out. Even though I love my job, making 3 videos in 3 months on top of dealing with some personal issues turned out to be too much.
Luckily, my lesson in meditation proved that there’s value in taking a break, even if it seems pretty unnatural - it’s like saying to stop swimming when you feel like you’re drowning.
So I spent April trying to make more permanent changes to my relationship with work, sleep, hobbies, and all that. It took a long time for me to feel comfortable with them (as in, I still don’t know if I’m comfortable with them), but it seems promising and I don’t know if I ever would’ve tried it without meditation.

🎨 Airplane Animations | BTS

While developing the video on airplane mode, we thought it would be cool to style our explainer animations to some of the information videos we found while researching. It was an interesting challenge trying to recreate a style that was so defined by older cel animation technology.
To pull it off, Sabrina illustrated assets based on Taha’s script and use a colour palette with values that would also work in grayscale. In Adobe After Effects, she limited her animations to linear movements, scaling, and cross-fades to emulate the older style.
But the thing that really sold the effect was a VHS filter our editor, Joe, put together that brought down the white point of the animation, added noise, and unsharpened the whole thing had that class lo-fi look. We’re pretty happy with the outcome and hope you enjoyed this peek behind the process!
